We finally go live!

So the Read a Million Words brand new interactive website is finally live! We've spent about a year researching what teachers and pupils want to see on the site and this is the result of all those questionnaires and phone calls.

What became really apparent as we were talking to schools, was the fact that so many schools felt that they weren't doing as much as they could with regards to organising events and activities to promote reading for pleasure. Once we'd gone through useful tools such as the Reading Audit, teachers were surprised to realise that they were actually already doing much more than they had originally thought but were not logging what they had done on a regular basis. And this brings us back to the whole point of Read a Million Words - the idea, challenge and tools on this new website are to help you with the things you are already doing in school. Take a look around the new site, familiarise yourself with the Word-o-Meter, Online Passport, Readers' section and the Teachers' section, sign up and away you go.

Of course, the site is still constantly evolving and shifting to meet your needs. If you think there should be any changes, additions, ommissions or amendments, or if you have an idea that worked really well in school, or a photo of your current reading display, or you'd just like to share some news with us, do please get in touch by emailing: melissa.thom@bristol.gov.uk

We hope you enjoy the new site -  feel free to post your blogs in response!

Happy Word Counting - you've just read 270 words!
